This is the pie I brought to Thanksgiving dinner at Bim's last year. It yields one 9" pie.
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup currants
4 medium tart apples, chopped
1 tsp orange rind
2/3 cup honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 cup apple cider (or use apple juice, if you must)
juice of one orange
5 Tbsp flour
Simmer first 8 ingredients until soft and well-blended. Remove from heat. Stir in the orange juice and flour. Pour into unbaked 9-inch pie shell. Bake at 450 for 15 minutes. Add crumb topping and bake 15 minutes more.
Crumb topping:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 tsp each cinnamon and nutmeg
Blend well with a fork or pastry blender until crumbly. Sprinkle over pie.
