Soft Molasses Cookies

These cookies stay soft. They are really yummy with a cup of tea or coffee.

Preheat oven to 325

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar                    Cream all together
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg

2-1/4 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon                                 Stir into creamed mixture
1 tsp ginger                                                    Blend well
1/2 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt

Roll into 1-1/2" balls. Dip tops lightly into granulated sugar and place sugar-side up on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 13-16 minutes, until set but not crispy.
